THE DUBAI-WCCD LOCAL DATA HUB
In November 2019, a long-standing partnership between the Canadian based World Council on City Data (WCCD), and the Executive Council of Dubai (TEC) culminated in the launch of the Dubai-WCCD Local Data Hub. As a WCCD Foundation City and host of the first WCCD Global Cities Summit, Dubai represents the first host of the global first in a series of WCCD Local Data Hubs, spread across the world. The Dubai-WCCD Local Data Hub is a platform for cities across the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia (MENASA) region to connect and share data-driven innovations and policies as well as solutions to the world’s most pressing problems – with a specific view on regional solutions to global challenges. Serving as a regional hub to promote the use of WCCD, ISO standardized city data, the Dubai-WCCD Local Data Hub is helping to showcase leadership, catalyze action, demonstrate results and enable city-to-city learning. The Dubai-WCCD Local Data Hub aims to harness standardized, globally comparable, city data that is essential to guiding more informed investment and measuring progress in meeting local, national and global targets.
OUR MISSION
The Dubai WCCD Local Data Hub aims to harness standardized, globally comparable, city data that is essential to guiding more informed investment and measuring progress in meeting local, national, and global targets. With a specific focus on how WCCD high calibre ISO certified and independently verified, globally comparable city data is driving innovation, participating cities within the Dubai-WCCD Local Data Hub can share experience and discover how city level data is driving change across global agendas such as urban resilience, the smart city agenda and the 2030 Agenda for the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Hub is able to address critical real-world issues by focusing on four main objectives:
Showcasing Leadership: The Local Data Hub will provide a platform to grow the network of data driven cities in the country and region.
Demonstrating Results: Through annual reporting of WCCD ISO Certified Data in the ISO 37120 Series of standards (ISO 37120 - Indicators for Sustainable Cities, ISO 37122 - Indicators for Smart Cities, and ISO 37123 - Indicators for Resilient Cities), the Local Data Hub will directly demonstrate year over year progress towards local, national and global goals.
Catalyzing Action: The Local Data Hub will use data to inform infrastructure investment, planning and decision making and track impacts over time.
Enabling City-to-City Learning: The Local Data Hub will support city-to-city learning and ‘solutions transfer’ across metropolitan areas, countries and globally.
